Inauguration of 30 day awareness campaign on violence against women and child was held on 01.07.2016 at Arunai Hr. Sec. School, Karikalampakkam, Puducherry.

Welfare Minister M.Kandasamy inaugurating the campaign said that the misconception of gender among students is the reason behind increasing crime rate against women in the society. He stressed the importance of teachers responsibility towards creating and maintaining supportive gender friendly environment. Gender equality can create avenue for social upliftment and violence against women and child can be reduced. Minister assured full support to organize these kind of awareness programmes in villages.

Field publicity officer, T. Sivakumar, pointing out the sex ratio of girl child in areas like Cuddalore, stated that sex ratio in some area are 837out of 1000. He further emphasized that it is important to initiate change process at a younger age so that attitudes can be shaped and behaviors transformed.

N.k. Perumal, Senior advocate, Puducherry said that, teachers have a unique role in the lives of their students. They can play a major role in imparting gender education and ensuring that schools are engendered.

Managing Trustee, P. Lalidamballe, requested the school management to set up committee for gender equality in order to check gender discrimination. Arunai School Principal Sandanam gave his assurance to set up such committee in his school. ADECOM legal consultant S. Perumal thanked all the participants and chief guests for supporting the event.
