Sensitising people to Centre’s welfare schemes


With a view to ensuring that information about the welfare scheme formulated by the Union government reaches all people, the Press Information Bureau, Southern Region, Chennai, is organising a three-day public information campaign here from Monday.

The initiatives of the Union government, being implemented under the supervision of the Prime Minister, will be showcased at the Tamil Thiruman Maaligai, Vazhuthavur Road, Chokkanathanpettain.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy is scheduled to inaugurate the programme.

55 stalls

A total of 55 stalls representing various Central and State departments and institutions will be put up.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, K.M. Ravindran, Additional Director-General of the Press Information Bureau, said the campaign aims to create awareness of schemes such as the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana and the Swachh Bharat campaign.

“Infotainment programmes” will also be conducted and visitors can interact with the resource persons.

The Press Information Bureau and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have been conducting such campaigns in various parts of Tamil Nadu since 2006.

As many as 52 campaigns have been conducted so far, the official said.
